In Montjuïc, FC Barcelona largely dominated Manchester City (3-0). The Catalans finished first in their group, which means that the Citizens could be Olympique Lyonnais’ future opponents in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Beaten on the way out, the Barça double defending champion of the Champions League had to score two more goals than Manchester City in Montjuïc to finish first and avoid Olympique Lyonnais or Chelsea from the 1/4 finals. It’s done, and in style (3-0).

The Blaugranas completely suffocated the Citizens in the first half, even if they were very hot when Jill Roord 20 meters away, saw his shot bounce off the crossbar (37th). It was the second and last shot for the English during this first period.

For the rest, these were Catalan waves, almost all dangerous. In the cages, Khiara Keating performed feats to defeat Salma Paralluelo (4e), Ewa Pajor (7th and 40th) and Esmee Brugts (33rd). And when Aitana Bonmatí intercepted a restart, the double Ballon d’Or’s lob fled the frame (28th).

But by putting pressure on the wings, City ended up cracking just before the break, Claudia Pina opening the score, well placed after Brugts looked for Bonmatí in the area (44th).

As soon as they returned from the locker room, Pina was launched towards a double but Keating made another save (46th). Ditto when Bonmatí found Pajor (49th). On the corner that followed, it was Keira Walsh who saw his shot graze the right post (50th).

So Bonmatí took matters in hand, resisted the defensive return before adjusting Keating from the left (57th). The recent winner of The Best came close to the double, alone to finish on a second ball but she found the crossbar (66th).

In the process, Pina saw his cross shot pass in front of the citizen cage (66th). Number 9 left its place to Alexia Putellas who immediately added a third goal (68th). Pajor missed a new duel which could have increased the score (87th), just like Vicky Lopez entry for the last moments (90th + 2) and Putellas (90 + 3).

Often trapped offside, the Citizens did not have the slightest opportunity until the 88th minute but Cata Collattentive, avoided the danger. They therefore finished second in their group and could find theOlympique Lyonnais from the quarter-finals of the competition.
