The largest recycling center in Guadeloupe was inaugurated this Wednesday, December 18 in Petit-Bourg. After 27 months of work, this new structure, which meets the “zero waste” objectives by 2035, was built by the Region, on city land and made available to the Northern Urban Community. Basse-Terre (CANBT) for its exploitation. The treatment of green waste is one of the main targets of this recycling center.
It is in the Roujol activity zone in Petit-Bourg that the largest recycling center in Guadeloupe is set up. A 27-month project which suffered several delays due in particular to bad weather and the necessary consolidations made to the ground. The inauguration took place this Wednesday morning.
If the Northern Basse-Terre Urban Community is going to operate it, it is the regional authority which ensures project management with funding from ADEME and European FEDER funds, of which the region is the management authority. Cost of the operation 4.5 million euros.

Petit-Bourg is the green commune par excellence. Located in the territory of the National Park, the town produces considerable volumes of green waste. Hence the choice to equip the new recycling center with specific non-standard tools for the treatment of green waste, a crusher and a compactor.
In addition to the significant vegetation on the territory of the municipality, the catchment area of the new recycling center includes around 20,000 inhabitants. Hence the importance, for the town hall, of a targeted policy on the treatment of green waste.

If the final objective is of course to work to improve the living environment of the inhabitants of the town, the fight against environmental delinquency is a priority for the mayor.
