Release of the film “Sarah Bernhardt, the Divine”: “I didn’t know how funny and avant-garde she was”, says Sandrine Kiberlain

Sandrine Kiberlain was the guest of the 1 p.m. Journal, this Wednesday, December 18, to talk about the film “Sarah Bernhardt, the Divine”, in which she plays the leading role.

Sandrine Kiberlain plays Sarah Bernhardt in the film Sarah Bernhardt, la Divine. A role that she very quickly accepted after reading the script. “I didn’t hesitate for a second (…) she’s a woman that I discovered through the script. I thought she was just a slightly dusty tragedian, I didn’t know to what extent she was funny and avant-garde and revolutionary, engaged amicably, lovingly, politically”lists the actress. According to her, Sarah Bernhardt was “extremely concerned about others, about the cause of women, about the anti-Semitism she was experiencing.”

The guest also says that her grandmother told her: “If you want to be an actress, your name will have to be Sandra Bernhardt”. “For her it was truly the image of the greatest actress and the actress that we must become”says Sandrine Kiberlain.
