Prime Minister François Bayrou spoke in 2’s special evening on Mayotte, Tuesday evening. It was taken up by Nagui when he alluded to the undocumented population living in Mayotte.

“United for Mayotte”: this is the name of the solidarity program offered by France 2 on Tuesday evening. The channel had disrupted its programs to offer an evening of support to help the populations devastated by the passage of Cyclone Chido. Objective: to call on the French to make donations. The evening, presented by Nagui and Karine Baste, welcomed several artists such as Marc Lavoine, Nolwenn Leroy, Thomas Dutronc, Kimberose and Cali. Regarding the human toll of the victims which remains difficult to know, Nagui pointed out that part of the population of Mayotte was not recorded. François Bayrou responded: “It is a population which, from the point of view of the papers, is illegal but from the point of view of life, they are men and women…” Nagui then cut the Prime Minister off: “Is it the topic today whether it’s legal or not?” “Exactly no,” replied François Bayrou, assuring that “everyone is Mahorais.”

François Bayrou took advantage of his visit to announce that donations for Mayotte will be tax deductible at 75% within the limit of 1000 euros, between December 17, 2024 and May 17, 2025. Thus, a donation of 100 euros results in a deduction of 75 euros on income tax. The rate is usually fixed at 66%.

Donations must be made to associations and foundations recognized as being of public utility working in Mayotte to provide free meals to people in difficulty, to provide care or to promote rehousing.

The President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron will visit Mayotte, François Bayrou will later visit the archipelago once the government is formed.
