Two employees of a seniors’ home in Oshawa, a suburb of Toronto, have been arrested in connection with the death of a 79-year-old resident who was allegedly trapped outside overnight.
According to Durham Regional Police, the 79-year-old woman left the home around 7:30 p.m. on March 31, 2023. She subsequently attempted to enter the residence, but was unable to do so since the doors were barred. She sat down on a bench, where she was discovered the next morning.
An autopsy revealed the cause of death was exposure to the elements.
Two employees now face charges of criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide the necessaries of life.
Both people were released on recognizance.
