Canal+ increases its prices, but without offering more (and even rather less)

From January 2025, Canal+ is increasing the prices of its subscriptions by up to €2.50 per month. An increase that goes badly, especially after the loss of several major content like Disney+.

Subscribers presented with a fait accompli

For several days, many Canal+ customers have received an e-mail informing them of an increase in prices. On average, you will need to count on €2 more each month, from the next renewal of the contract. This concerns all plans: from low-cost offers, such as those for those under 26 (€19.99/month), to premium subscriptions of up to €80.
Officially, this increase is justified by the desire to continue to provide the best possible experience. Except that no improvement of services or enrichment of the catalog has been announced to compensate for this increase.

A calendar that goes wrong

What annoys subscribers even more is the timing. Canal+ will soon lose key content from its offering, in particular Disney+ and its associated channels, as well as the Press Pass.
For users, the equation is therefore simple: they will pay more for a less comprehensive offer.

This echoes a previous increase in 2022, linked to the increase in VAT on Canal+ subscriptions from 10% to 20%. At the time, formulas with streaming platforms like Netflix or Disney+ were spared. Today, it is precisely these offers that are the most impacted.

Young subscribers and economic plans most affected

Even the Rat+ offer, designed for those under 26, is not immune to this increase. Currently billed at €19.99 per month, it will increase to €22.49.
An increase of €2.50 which risks turning off some young users, especially since Disney+ has already disappeared from the catalog. This formula, which stood out for its excellent quality-price ratio, thus loses part of its appeal.

Dissatisfied customers can of course cancel their subscription before the renewal date. A clarification mentioned in the email, in order to respect the general conditions, but which leaves little choice to those who wish to maintain their access.

By increasing its prices while reducing its catalog Canal+ exposes itself to a loss of confidence.

While some subscribers could skip it, others risk turning to cheaper or more content-rich alternatives. For the moment, the group remains discreet about its future intentions, but will have to convince quickly, otherwise it will see its subscriber base melt away.

Are you a Canal+ subscriber? Does this increase concern you? Do you plan to stay subscribed?
