The Manhattan prosecutor has charged Luigi Mangione, detained in the state of Pennsylvania where he was arrested, with murder “considered an act of terrorism”. He is suspected of having “unscrupulously” assassinated Brian Thompson, the boss of one of the largest American health insurance companies.
“This was an assassination that was intended to arouse terror,” said Manhattan prosecutor Alvin Bragg. Luigi Mangione, the alleged killer of an American boss of the health insurance sector in New York, was indicted for murder “considered an act of terrorism”, the magistrate announced Tuesday, December 17 during a press conference.
Alvin Bragg spoke of the “premeditated and ruthless” murder of Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthCare, at dawn on December 4 in Manhattan’s business district.
If convicted of this charge of murder with a terrorist dimension, which was decided by a grand jury of citizens, Luigi Mangione, 26, faces life in prison without parole, the Manhattan prosecutor said.
