In this match without stakes, OL and Wolfsburg did not deliver the best of shows this Tuesday evening at Décines. Daniëlle van de Donk’s single goal was enough for Lyon to go flawless in this group stage of the Champions League.
You had to have strong nerves this Tuesday evening not to skip the television or be very well equipped to brave the cold that reigned in Décines. Because these are not theOL in Wolfsburg who heated up the atmosphere for this last meeting of the group stage of the Champions League. Not really a surprise since both teams were already qualified for the next round and nothing could change in the rankings. However, Joe Montemurro had confided on Monday that he did not want “take lightly” this last match of the year 2024 despite the absence of issues. We can’t really say that the Australian coach was heard by his players, but can we blame them when the work had been done before and the holidays were waiting for them?
A shot on target in the first half
Not really, especially since at the end of these 90 minutes, OL secured the essential, namely a sixth victory in six group matches (1-0). However, we had to wait until the end of the match to see the scoreboard finally be unlocked. Entry in the 71st minute, Daniëlle van de Donk forced the German lock ten minutes later in spectacular fashion after a one-two with Kadidiatou Diana (1-0, 81st). A single goal which was enough for Lyon’s happiness in a meeting which had everything of a friendly match. The Fenottes dominated the debates in the first half, but the technical inaccuracies worthy of a restart match prevented us from seeing a real spectacle.
Diani tried his luck at the end of the half, but it was the only shot on target after 45 minutes. Quite poor as OL fielded an eleven with only three changes compared to Nantes. Missed crosses, a technical approximation and the approximately 3,000 spectators present did not get their money’s worth. A match where the work was done, but which will not be remembered.
