This is the end of the saga of the marathon match between ASVEL and Élan Chalon on October 20 (109-107 after three overtimes.)
The Appeals Chamber of the French Basketball Federation (FFBB) finally decided to maintain the victory of Chalon-sur-Saônethus going in the opposite direction of the initial decision to replay the match.
The Appeals Chamber ruled in favor of Chalon
The Villeurbanne club had filed a claim after the match, pointing out a violation of the rules: a substitution requested by ASVEL 8 seconds from the end of the last quarter had only been made between the two free throws awarded to Joffrey Lauvergneinstead of being executed before.
The Federal High-Level Officials Commission then agreed with ASVEL by ordering a replay of the match.
But Chalon-sur-Saône, which celebrated its first and only victory in the championship this season, appealed this decision. The FFBB Appeals Chamber then finally ruled in favor of the Chalonnais club making the definitive victory.
ASVEL’s reaction
In an official press release, ASVEL said it was surprised and disappointed by this decision which “questions the usefulness of being able to file a complaint” if an infraction of the regulations is not deemed admissible.
The club nevertheless affirmed that it wanted to turn the page and concentrate on the rest of its season.
