Nîmes: thirteen children evacuated during a fire in a building

On October 16, 2024, at 1:40 p.m., firefighters responded to a fire in a collective dwelling located on the old Générac road, in Nîmes. The fire broke out near a mattress on the balcony of the third floor of a R+3 building.

The emergency detachment, made up of 23 firefighters and eight vehicles (including two fire vans, a large ladder, an ambulance, a nursing vehicle, and several command vehicles), was quickly mobilized to the scene.

Faced with the spread of smoke, emergency services evacuated several people, including thirteen children from the nursery located on the ground floor of the building. The evacuated children were brought together safely in the premises of the Frédéric Mistral high school.

Three children, bothered by the smoke, were treated by the fire brigade medical team, but no victim required transport to hospital.

The fire was contained to the balcony and did not affect the entire apartment. However, four people had to be relocated by the town hall services due to the damage caused by the smoke.

The police, as well as the EDF and GRDF services, were also present on the scene to secure the intervention and the electricity and gas supply.
