What’s new in the PS5 update?

Customizing the wallpaper

The Welcome Center also allows to change the wallpaper. It is possible to choose from different designs, some of which are animated, or to use a screenshot taken from the Media Gallery. This feature is currently being rolled out, first in the United States, then in Japan and Europe, before being available everywhere.

Party Sharing to play more easily online

Another new feature to note: Party Sharing. From now on, it is possible to send an invitation link to join a voice chat, even to people who are not in the PSN friends list. The invitation is made via a QR code that can be scanned from a smartphone or PS5. To create this link, simply go to the voice chat card and select “Share Party Link”.

3D audio profiles tailored to each player

3D audio has also been improved with a new customization feature. Thanks to Tempest 3D AudioTech technology, the PS5 can now create audio profiles tailored to each player. These profiles can be configured in the console settings like this: Settings > Son > 3D audio (earphones). It is possible to return to standard settings if necessary. This update joins other improvements like support for speakers and Dolby Atmos.

Manage PS5 Remote Access More Easily

The Remote Play function becomes more flexible. It is now possible to configure settings individually for each user, which allows you to manage who can access the console remotely. This option is particularly useful if the PS5 is shared with several people.

To adjust these settings, go to Settings > System > Remote playback > Enable Remote PlayThen select user for which the function must be activated.

Adaptive charging for PS5 Slim and Pro

The PS5 Slim benefits adaptive load for DualSense, DualSense Edge, PS VR2 Sense and Access controllers. The feature adjusts charging based on battery level to optimize energy consumption. To access it, you must go to the power management settings. Note that the PS5 Pro, which promises to improve over time via PSSR, also benefits from this.

The PlayStation application offers Party Sharing

Finally, the PlayStation app on mobile has also been updated. It allows you to share links to Parties directly from a smartphone.
