Despite the phenomenal success of the first opus, Joker: Folie à Deux collapsed at the box office and became a resounding failure. With colossal losses for Warner Bros, the company is trying to limit the damage.

Joker 2 sings out of tune

Nobody expected it, but Joker 2 turned out to be a real flop! While the first Joker was a huge financial success, bringing in more than a billion dollars for a modest budget of 70 million, Joker: Folie à Deux failed to repeat this feat. With a significantly higher budget, the production had to reach $450 million to be profitable, according to Variety. However, to date, it has not reported that 165 million dollars in the world. Some insiders even believe that this film could lead to a loss of 150 million dollars for Warner Bros. Faced with this disaster, the company took a radical decision to limit the damage, although some filmmakers, such as Christopher Nolan, disapprove of this approach.

A new hope for Joker 2

The flop of Joker: Folie à Deux surprised everyone, especially after the colossal success of the first opus. Since its release, not only has the film struggled to attract spectators, but it has also become the target of mockery on social networks. Worse still, some even called for a boycott of the film, claiming not to have been informed that it was of a musicaldespite trailers and clear marketing about it. Unfortunately, the damage is done, and Todd Phillips’ film is considered a dismal failure. In response, Warner Bros. made a radical decision: release the film in digital barely a month after arriving in theaters.

Thus, Joker 2 will debut on video on demand (VOD) services from October 29. This shows that Warner Bros. has little hope for the film’s performance in theaters and prefers to make it available on digital platforms. However, this decision also increases the risks of piracy, because the film will be more easily accessible to fans of illegal streaming. As for a release on streaming services like Max or even Netflix, nothing has been announced yet, but it is likely that it will will arrive sooner than expected. It remains to be seen whether this new digital distribution will be able to rectify the situation in the weeks to come.
