Queen Máxima of the Netherlands visited the village of Klaaswaal to discover the community life of this locality. During the visit, Queen Máxima was able to interact with the locals with whom she shared her passion for Rummikub.

Queen Máxima visits the village of Klaaswaal, renowned for its quality of life
On October 15, 2024, Queen Máxima visited Klaaswaal in the municipality of Hoeksche Waard. The visit focused on the quality of life and the strong community life that exists in this locality in South Holland. The village located in the middle of the countryside has 4000 inhabitants. Around the village there are 37 hamlets which depend on the municipality of Hoeksche Waard.
“Klaaswaal is characterized by the tranquility of a rural and agricultural environment and its convenient location close to several major towns”explains the Government Information Service (RVD). In recent decades, various facilities have disappeared from the village, meaning that residents have to increasingly rely on facilities in larger neighboring towns.
Queen Máxima visited the construction site of a future residence and received explanations about this major housing project. Queen Máxima then visited the Korstanjehuis community center, where residents will talk about the importance of being able to meet in this place. The Queen was able to interact with people who frequent this center where they practice various activities, such as billiards, sewing or card games.

Queen Máxima reveals her passion for Rummikub
Queen Máxima notably sat at the table with a group of nonagenarians who were playing Rummikub. With the spontaneity that we know of her, the queen invited herself into the game and demonstrated that she was quite talented at this game. Queen Máxima admitted that she loved Rummikub and played it often, reports Libelle. Máxima changed tables and went to the participants of a sewing workshop, who were busy making bags and clothes.
Continuing her visit to the village, Queen Máxima stopped at a building hosting the two musical groups of Klaaswaal. The small town has a harmony and a small orchestra, which usually play during village festivals. Finally, at the SSS Klaaswaal football club, Queen Máxima also felt at home.
After chatting with the footballers and training, the Queen visited the refreshment bar which also serves as a canteen. Queen Máxima demonstrated her waitressing skills by filling a beer glass from the tap.
