“We know of other pieces by the same master, but far from this level. It is the most beautiful Yaoure mask, a people geographically close to the Baoulés, known in the world.”assures Antonio Casanovas. To which it must be added that it is also the most fantastic piece of this 2024 edition. The Madrid gallery owner, installed for the Parcours des mondes in the 22 Visconti gallery, acquired it from the heirs of the Italian Franco Monti, who was an advisor to the great collector and friend of Charles Ratton: Carlo Monzino in Milan. Franco Monti had collected this magnificent head with black patina and stylized features in Ivory Coast, in the 1950s and 1960s. He kept it all his life, without ever publishing it. As soon as the catalog came out, before even being exhibited, it was sold at a top secret price, well above 500,000 euros, or even close to a million. It should remain in Europe (22, rue Visconti).
