Carrefour finds an ally to conquer India

Ten years after its departure, the distributor signed a franchise contract with Apparel Group, to open small hypermarkets and supermarkets in 2025. A format complementary to local grocers.

Ten years after leaving India, Carrefour is making a comeback in this country of more than 1.4 billion inhabitants, which it considers to be « one of the largest food markets in the world ». The second French distributor has sealed a franchise partnership with Apparel Group. This key retail player based in Dubai and founded by Indian businesswoman Sima Ganwani Ved, is present in 14 countries.

With this agreement, the group plans to open, from the second half of 2025, small hypermarkets and supermarkets under its brand that will be operated by Apparel Group – for a fee paid to the distributor – in New Delhi. With the ambition of conquering the large megacities Bombay and Bengaluru in a second phase.
