In 2014, when he was only 26 years old, Rémy Boullé was the victim of a terrible accident while skydiving in the south of France. In his misfortune, the bronze medalist in paracanoeing was lucky because he met Mathilde…

Bronze medalist in the 200m para-canoe, Rémy Boullé was invited on the show What Games September 7, 2024 on France 2. Facing Léa Salamé, this former Air Force commando and member of the French parachuting team told his story and his accident that left him paraplegic. At only 26 years old, he almost lost his life during an operational exercise in Gap after his parachute did not trigger. In the Figaro from Saturday, September 7, he says: “I activated my reserve parachute which worked well, except that the main one finally opened and the two canvases got tangled, which meant that I ended up as a torch. My last 500 meters of fall were at about 50 km/h”.

“I only had one option, I really arrived standing up and I tried to survive by blowing up my legs and in fact I have a friend Blandine Pérou who died in an accident similar to mine, a year before mine and so of course I thought of her, she landed on the concrete so she died instantly and I was lucky, I fell on the grass (…) I said to myself, if you want to survive, it is absolutely necessary that it is your legs that explode, and maybe you will have a chance of surviving and that is what I managed to do and suddenly I had total paraplegia” explained the athlete on the France 2 set.
