PEI Beach Sword Attack Suspect is being sought

SEACOW POND, PEI — A man is wanted by the Royal Prince Edward Island Mounted Police after brandishing a sword on a beach Friday night, injuring two people.

Police allege a man wearing a dark surgical mask and a sword approached three people at Seacow Pond. He fled on foot after attacking them.

“This person is not yet in custody and the investigation is ongoing,” Corporal Gavin Moore said in an interview Saturday morning.

The police arrived on the scene about ten minutes after the attack, said a press release. A canine team, a drone pilot, members of the Major Crimes Unit and the Forensic Identification Service, as well as many members of the detachment, also visited the scene.

The motives of the assailant, who is about 1m78 tall, remain unknown, the statement noted.

Authorities say a 42-year-old woman suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries. A youth was slightly injured and the third person was uninjured.

Witnesses reported seeing the man walking through the courtyards of Seacow Pond, and police issued an alert for the area, asking residents to lock their doors and stay away from windows.

The alert was canceled hours later because there was no longer an immediate risk to the public, the RCMP said.

Corporal Moore said Saturday there were still no public threats at this time, but residents should still be careful and lock their doors.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit was still investigating the incident on Saturday.
