The community of Amos is completely “in shock” since the terrible accident in which a 13-year-old boy was hit by a motorist as he got off the bus on Tuesday in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

Nathan Macameau, a second-year high school student, was returning home by school bus after his day at Amos high school.

This terrible collision, which occurred the week the school year began, “brings additional stress to bus drivers, parents and students who are starting to use school transportation,” comments Mr. D’astous.
The little boy remains in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle traveling southbound while trying to cross the road to get to his home on Route 111, at the intersection of Rue du Faubourg.

“It’s a disaster,” said the mayor of Amos.
Tragic accidents like this are a reminder of the importance of being on the lookout for school buses and stopping when the signals are on.
“You always have to be careful when the indicators are on,” notes Sébastien D’astous. “The mechanism has to start up again. We do a lot of prevention, but it seems that this year it wasn’t enough.”
For the mayor of Amos, it is important to send a message across Quebec: “Be careful, an accident can happen so quickly,” he concludes.
A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to help the victim’s relatives.
