A suspicious package was discovered this Wednesday morning, at 9:10 a.m., in the banking district, on rue François-Diday, which was cordoned off by the police. The axis, which borders the Grand Théâtre, is parallel to rue de la Corraterie. At 11:30 a.m., the police, firefighters and Nedex (neutralization, removal, destruction of explosives) were still on the scene.
A florist, whose shop overlooks the affected portion of the street, explains that upon their arrival, the police and firefighters asked the employees to “stay away from the windows and take shelter. So we went to the cellar. At 11:45 a.m. the store was open again.
According to a witness, the Nedex agents were kneeling near a package placed next to a trash can in the street.
The Geneva Public Prosecutor’s Office makes no comment and refers to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Confederation. This element suggests that the device found was really booby-trapped, since the latter is only seized in cases where explosives are used.
-The episode inevitably brings to mind the booby-trapped device affair which has been agitating Geneva for several months. As a reminder, three episodes were recorded in 2024: a gun made with a 3D printer and hidden in a milk box went off in April in Plan-les-Ouates; a trash bag placed outside a family’s door in Saint-Jean exploded in August; and a device placed in a mailbox in Petite-Boissière exploded in November, seriously injuring a little girl in the stomach.
As a reminder, two brothers were arrested by Fedpol in December, suspected of having a connection with these facts. The youngest obtained his provisional release before the end of year holidays. His eldest is still incarcerated.
