manages to avoid a huge fiasco

Recruited for 15 million euros in Norway six months ago, Albert Grönbaek has already been sidelined by Stade Rennais. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder is expected at Southampton and the Breton club will limit the damage.

Last summer, Stade Rennais completely changed its recruitment policy under the leadership of its new sports director Frederic Massara. The Breton club has bet on several young players abroad, a strategy far from winning given the catastrophic season achieved so far by the club owned by François-Henri Pinault. Symbol of ' new recruitment, Albert Grönbaek was bought for 15 million euros from Bodö/Glimt in Norway. And despite a promising start, the Danish attacking midfielder has never established himself to the point of being placed in the loft since the start of January.

Asked to find a new club, Albert Grönbaek is about to leave Stade Rennais according to L'Equipe. The national daily explains that an agreement has been reached with Southampton and that his departure will be official in a few days. All parties are optimistic to complete the operation in the form of a loan with a purchase option set at 15 million euros according to Loïc Tanzi. A priori, this purchase option will not be obligatory, which leaves uncertainty surrounding the future of Albert Grönbaek.

On the Rennes side, we will therefore hope that the Danish midfielder shines at the current bottom of the Premier League in order to convince the British leaders to exercise his purchase option at the end of the season. Grönbaek will have to be strong to do well at Southampton, who have five consecutive defeats in the league and who have only six points in 22 games since the start of the Premier League season.
