The “Women’s March” returns to Washington on Saturday, two days before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump. The rally was renamed and reorganized as the People's March to broaden support.

Women outraged by Donald Trump's 2016 presidential victory flocked to Washington in 2017 and held large rallies in cities across the country, laying the groundwork for a grassroots movement that became known as name “Women's March”.

The Washington rally alone attracted more than 500,000 marchers, and millions more participated in local marches across the country, marking one of the largest single-day protests in state history -United.

This year's march is expected to be ten times smaller than the first and takes place in a climate of reflection, as many progressive voters feel a sense of exhaustion, disappointment and despair following the defeat of Vice President Kamala Harris.

The movement fractured after that hugely successful day of protest amid accusations that it was not diverse enough. This year's name change to “People's March” is the result of an overhaul aimed at broadening the group's appeal.

Saturday's protest will highlight themes of feminism, racial justice, anti-militarization and other issues, and will culminate with discussions hosted by various social justice organizations.
