Candidate for the 2027 presidential election, former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe has outlined some of his directions for his political project. He also returned to certain recent events.
In a long interview for Le Parisien, Édouard Philippe discussed a certain number of points and political sequences that have marked French but also international news. He also expanded on his candidacy for the 2027 presidential election.
Beyond the tactical movements of the different parties in the Assembly, Édouard Philippe wanted to immediately present himself as presidential and thus position himself above the fray. One of its spearheads: financial balance. “The important thing is the spirit of responsibility and financial balance. This reform [des retraites] is not perfect. But it accepts the idea that to guarantee our pay-as-you-go pension system, we will have to work longer. It's not popular, I know that.”he testifies in the columns of the daily.
“You have to prepare for everything”
For the former member of LR, “the current political period no longer allows for major transformations until the next presidential election. There is no majority, no clear mandate. It’s very frustrating”he indicated. The fault of the dissolution? “The decision to dissolve was a disastrous decision. I have the impression that the President of the Republic recognized this when he made his wishes.” On the subject of a potential anticipated presidential election, Édouard Philippe responds: “When anything can happen, you have to prepare for anything.”
-In a lighter but no less political register, the mayor of Le Havre also discussed his physical appearance, his alopecia and the loss of his hair. “It changes your appearance, your face, the way you look at yourself and that others have at you. It’s not nothing.” “Last June, it started growing back, without treatment or surgery. It was funny. I felt like I was reliving puberty.”
