The motorist was arrested at the wheel of a rental utility vehicle in Landres in Meurthe-et-Moselle. Its cargo, consisting of more than 6,000 bottles of alcohol, was seized.
The Meurthe-et-Moselle gendarmerie recently uncovered significant alcohol trafficking. During a night check in Landres, PSIG gendarmes from Val de Briey intercepted a utility vehicle coming from Luxembourg. On board: 6,284 bottles of strong alcohol distributed in 401 boxes.
The driver, a merchant from the Paris region, transported this cargo without any proof of purchase. The goods, estimated at 54,000 euros, would have been transported several times between Luxembourg and La Courneuve. The man declared himself to be a simple transporter working on behalf of an employer. However, investigators have already established that this was his third trip in a few days.
According to the gendarmerie, these night trips were organized for the sake of discretion, the vehicle used being rented to cover their tracks. This undeclared activity of course escaped all taxation, depriving the State of significant revenue.
All of the seized bottles will soon be put at public auction for the benefit of the State, informs the gendarmerie.
-The investigation continues in the Paris region, particularly in Seine-Saint-Denis, to identify possible accomplices and trace the entire chain of this lucrative network. This raid once again demonstrates the vigilance of law enforcement in the face of these illegal practices, while reminding us that fraudsters are exposed to severe sanctions. “His business is “taking on water” one would say”, the gendarmerie commented ironically on its Facebook account.
