When the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) took Baghouz, the last bastion of ISIS, they arrested Daniel D. Of Geneva origin, this man, now aged 30, had joined Syria and the ranks of ISIS five years earlier. Since incarcerated in a prison in the north of the country, he requests consular protection from Switzerland. His request was initially dismissed, with the DFA systematically refusing to repatriate adults involved with IS. But his situation must be urgently re-examined, the Federal Court (TF) decided last month, information revealed by the CH Media newspapers and taken up by “Le Matin Dimanche”.
Nicknamed the “most dangerous jihadist in Switzerland”, this man has always denied having participated in the fighting in Syria. But, for the record, he had already been radicalized in Switzerland and had attended the Petit-Saconnex mosque in Geneva. He is suspected of having participated in the preparation of a terrorist act in French-speaking Switzerland. And his parents, a 59-year-old dual Swiss-Spanish national and a 69-year-old Swiss man, were indicted by the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office. They are accused of having financially supported IS by sending, between September 2016 and May 2019, more than 50,000 francs to their son and other members of this organization who are also in Syria.
