To help low-income households, CAF offers personalized housing assistance or APL each year. However, to benefit from it, there are criteria to respect, particularly with regard to resource ceilings.
The conditions to be respected to receive the APL
Everyone can benefit from an APL, whether they are a tenant, roommate or sub-tenant. However, it should be noted that the eligibility conditions for this aid are not necessarily the same.
For subtenants, for example, certain specific criteria are required. The person concerned must either be under 30 years old, over 60 years old, or be disabled. They can also benefit from APL if they reside with a welcoming family.
For tenants and roommates, there are no age conditions to respect. Whether you are French or a legally resident foreigner, you can benefit from this social assistance.

This aid of up to €1,100 that you can combine with the APL: everything you need to know
Please note that a minor child cannot directly receive social assistance. However, parents can receive APL for the accommodation of their minor child, provided they sign or co-sign the lease.
Owners cannot benefit from APL directly, because this assistance is aimed at tenants. However, they can benefit from other housing assistance, such as the Family Housing Allowance (ALF) or the Social Housing Allowance (ALS), under certain conditions.
These aids are intended to helping low-income homeowners pay off their mortgages for their main residence.
As for housing, there are several criteria that must be respected at all costs. First of all, it must be a main residence (inhabited at least 8 months per year). Then, it should have a surface area of 9 m², a ceiling height of 2.20 m and a habitable volume of at least 20 m³.
Obviously, the house must be approved. In particular, you must enter into an agreement with the State, which gives you the right to housing assistance.

Resource conditions
The resource conditions for the APL were subject to an adjustment this year, as confirmed by the site MoneyVox.
These new conditions apply to benefits due from January 1, 2025 and paid from next month. You should know that the amounts received vary depending on the situation of each beneficiary.
For a single person without dependents, for example, the threshold rises to 5 235 euros in 2025, compared to 5,186 euros in 2024. For a single person with dependents (or a couple with dependents), the threshold increased to 8 947 euroscompared to 8,862 euros last year.
Non-scholarship students renting traditional accommodation see their ceiling increase by 200 euros, thus reaching 8 600 euros in 2025, compared to 8,400 euros in 2024. For scholarship holders renting traditional accommodation, the threshold is now 6 900 euroscompared to 6,700 euros previously. Fellows living in hostels have a ceiling set at 5 400 eurosinstead of 5,300 euros.
Finally, non-scholarship students living in hostels must not exceed a ceiling of 6 600 euros to benefit from the APL. This amount has also been increased by 200 euros compared to 2024, where it was 6,400 euros.
