Light amounts of freezing rain reached the cities of Mirabel and Montreal early Saturday afternoon, Environment Canada observed. This precipitation will persist until Sunday morning in southern Quebec.
A maximum of minus 2°C is expected in the Montreal region on Saturday. On Sunday, a maximum of 3°C is expected.
“In areas along the St. Lawrence River, temperatures near zero could persist a little longer during the afternoon, so we could see freezing drizzle at that time,” said Kathleen Maynard-Leclerc, spokesperson at Environment Canada.
A warm current
Starting Sunday evening, a second system from Texas will enter southern Quebec. It will carry warm air with it, which will cause precipitation in the form of rain, reports Environment Canada.
“Temperatures will gradually rise, we are talking around 10 degrees for Montreal [lundi] », explained Mme Maynard-Leclerc. “We are expecting 15 to 25 millimeters of rain, even up to 30 millimeters of rain in places,” she added. This low pressure system will move into eastern Quebec during the day on Tuesday, on the eve of the new year.
In southern Quebec, the temperature is expected to reach 0°C again when we move to 2025. For the 1is January, Environment Canada announces temperatures slightly above seasonal norms, which could be accompanied by isolated showers.
It is not until January 3 that temperatures are expected to drop closer to seasonal norms, to minus 6°C in the Montreal region.
