Professor Mouhamadane Diéne, Director of the National Higher School of Geology and Mines, was the guest of the morning show “Salam Senegal” on Radio Senegal. In this interview, he presented the significant evolution of this institution since decree 2022-80, which conferred upon it the rank of faculty, thus marking a new stage in the field of training in geology and mining.
The school, which trains engineers specializing in oil, gas, cement and water, has expanded its training offering with diplomas such as an engineering diploma in geology, a professional license in geo-mining and geotechnics, as well as a professional master's degree in geotechnics introduced this year. This is part of a desire to adapt to current sector requirements and new technologies.
Professor Diéne also underlined that, despite administrative challenges, the financial autonomy of the establishment remains intact. He highlighted the main mission of the school: to train experts while supporting the State, local authorities and mining companies, whether public or private. Since 1982, the School has trained more than 480 engineers, and the growth of the oil and gas sector in Senegal has led to an increase in applications, attracting more than a thousand applicants this year for only 25 places available.
In a spirit of openness, the school also accepts non-Senegalese students, thus strengthening its international character. Professor Diéne expressed the need for support from the authorities to modernize the institution's laboratories.
Finally, he announced that a graduation ceremony will be organized on December 28, 2024, marking the return of promotion celebration events, which have not taken place since 2015. This initiative aims to revitalize links between graduates , while emphasizing the importance of this school in the educational and professional landscape of the country.
