The recent wave of cool weather accompanied by precipitation which crosses Senegal should continue to rage until Thursday, according to the forecasts of Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Camara, forecasting engineer at the National Agency for Civil Aviation and Meteorology (ANACIM), reports the APS.
Camara stressed that this meteorological situation is characterized by a gradual drop in temperatures in the central and northern regions of the country, up to some rain. “As of this Tuesday, drops of rain are expected in certain central localities, such as Diourbel, Kaffrine, Fatick, Kaolack, as well as in Dakar and Thiès later in the evening,” he said.
ANACIM forecasts, valid for the period from Monday to Thursday, have already revealed temperatures not exceeding 30 degrees Celsius in most of the country. Precipitation was also recorded, notably in Kédougou where it rained this Monday afternoon until the evening. Rain accumulations vary from 2 mm to 4 mm depending on the region, with showers noted in the center at Kaffrine and Koungheul, and in the south at Kolda and Ziguinchor.
Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Camara explained that this meteorological phenomenon is linked to a mass of cold air coming from the north. The latter creates a contrast with the warm air of equatorial latitudes, thus causing the formation of clouds and a drop in temperatures. “It is this phenomenon that causes us to have dense clouds that develop, bringing coolness and wind,” he added.
Faced with these conditions, Camara advises taking the necessary precautions, particularly for vulnerable people, to minimize potential health risks linked to cold weather and rain. This alert was relayed by the APS, thus emphasizing the importance of these forecasts for the days to come.
