: Pierre Labat, trainer of Zidane and Lizarazu in , is dead

He left his mark on several generations of footballers. Pierre Labat, nicknamed “Pierrot”, died during the night from Saturday to Sunday at the age of 88. Although his playing career with the Girondins was interrupted by a knee injury, this former full-back built his notoriety in Bordeaux on his qualities as a trainer. Appointed deputy head of the training center in 1986, he participated in the emergence of Zinedine Zidane, Bixente Lizarazu and Christophe Dugarry, world champions in 1998 and European champions in 2000 with the Blues.

“Educator, training center assistant, goalkeeper coach, professional observer, then assistant coach… he marked the history of the Girondins with his passion and dedication. Pierrot contributed to the development of the greatest players in the club's history and will remain in everyone's hearts. Thanks for everything, Pierrot. Having joined the staff of Elie Baup's first team in the early 2000s, Pierrot Labat was moved by the club's financial setbacks this summer in a post posted on his Facebook page. “The club sank because of poor financial management by its leaders and its president (businessman Gérard Lopez), questionable sporting choices and an obvious lack of serious work from some of them », he was annoyed on the social network.
