So, did you know that its construction was almost entrusted to the architect Olivier Mordrel? His project was selected as part of the competition organized in 1932 and was then rejected by Mayor Victor Le Gorgeu, Mordrel being a Breton nationalist notorious – he would later collaborate with Nazi Germany.

On the other hand, the old emergency building was called low-paying building because it welcomed patients who were wealthy enough to pay for their stay, unlike others who were admitted for free. Despite its announced conversion into a luxury hotel, this building is classified and its exterior appearance should therefore remain unchanged.

Underground

Finally, the hospital suffered relatively little from the war, among other things because the Allies had access to the plans of its underground passages and therefore did not need to bomb it to free it – the blockhouses erected by the Germans almost failed. be demolished, but the project was abandoned due to the scale of the infrastructure it would have required.

The underground passages also conceal another vestige of the past, pipes once used for pneumatic communication.
