The city of is taking a new step in terms of gender equality.

Significant progress for equality

For several years, the municipality of Poitiers has been committed to professional equality. After reducing salary gaps and improving the working conditions of certain staff, it is taking a new step by recognizing the specificities linked to gender.

From January 2025, municipal employees will be able to benefit from two days of menstrual leave per month, without loss of salary. This innovative measure, which makes Poitiers one of the first French cities to implement it, aims to relieve women suffering from painful periods and enable them to reconcile professional and personal life.

Extended paternity leave

Men are not left out. Paternity leave, which was until now four weeks, is increased to ten weeks. This measure, aligned with maternity leave, aims to encourage greater involvement of fathers in the education of their children and to promote a more equitable distribution of tasks within couples.

By taking such initiatives, the city of Poitiers positions itself as a pioneer in terms of gender equality. These measures could inspire other communities to follow this example and implement fairer and more inclusive public policies.
