Hydrogen is accelerating in Sarthe. If the official deployment will not take place until the end of 2025, the elected officials of the Le Mans Metropolis were keen to present to the public one of the examples of the future articulated hydrogen buses which will circulate on the network. Used on the new C4, C5 and C6 bus lines, this first fuel cell bus will be on display until Sunday, December 22.
Fuel cell buses supplied by Mercedes
Following a call for tenders launched at the start of the year, Le Mans Métropole placed an order for four buses from the Daimler company. Equipped with a 60 kW fuel cell, these vehicles have 392 kWh of batteries and six hydrogen tanks under 350 bars, offering a total capacity of 30 kg. This configuration allows them to display an announced autonomy of 400 km with a full tank.
Measuring 18 meters long, these buses can accommodate 35 seated and 100 standing passengers. Unlike the orange livery of the usual Setram vehicles, these models will feature a combination of midnight blue and red, using the colors chosen for the tram trains celebrating the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Le Mans Métropole specifies that the unit cost of these buses is 882,700 euros excluding taxes, or 1,059,240 euros including tax.
