Naomi Ach: “never remain passive in the face of the intolerable”

Support Point : Can you introduce yourself in a few words?

Naomi Oh: I am Issean by birth. I was educated at the Île Saint-Germain school in primary school and at Les Ponceaux kindergarten. Subsequently, I continued my education in Boulogne-Billancourt, then I studied at a business school. Today, I work as a recruitment manager. I practiced horse riding for many years at the Pony Club in the Île Saint-Germain park, I attend the synagogue in Issy-les-Moulineaux, and I do sports at the One Fitness Club in Issy Cœur of City. Finally, I am going to get married this summer at the town hall of Issy-les-Moulineaux, which has a lot of meaning for me.

P.d’A : You showed courage in the face of an anti-Semitic act, what happened that day?

N.A : On August 14, in a metro train, a family was violently attacked because of their religion. She was insulted and attacked simply because she was Jewish. Faced with this injustice, I acted according to my values. I filmed the scene, confronted the attacker and tried to use my words to put an end to his actions. Even though I put myself in danger, I couldn’t stay silent. I was deeply affected by the indifference of the passengers present that day. This reinforced my idea that every voice counts and that it is the duty of all of us to mobilize in the face of hatred.

P.d’A : What do you think of the Memory and Citizenship cycle entitled “Acting together against anti-Semitism”?

N.A : I find it of capital importance. The rise of anti-Semitism, racism and all forms of discrimination is a worrying reality. This cycle illustrates the commitment necessary to preserve the values of the Republic. These actions remind us that the fight against anti-Semitism and for fraternity is a collective and continuous duty.

P.d’A : Do you have a message to convey to our fellow citizens?

N.A : This medal is not just a personal distinction. It carries a universal message: we must never look away from hatred. Every gesture, every action counts. We all have a role to play in promoting solidarity, fraternity and respect for others. I hope that my action, however modest, will inspire others to never remain passive in the face of the intolerable.
