He threatens the police with a Kalashnikov replica and asks them to shoot him

A 24-year-old young man was arrested after threatening the police with a fake assault rifle, in the city center of Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle), during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. The suspect, who was intoxicated, repeatedly asked the police to kill him, said a source close to the investigation, confirming information from France Blue. He was subdued and arrested, before being placed in police custody.

The police were warned shortly before midnight that a man with a long weapon was in Place Carnot. A patrol from the local security group (GSP), a second from the dog brigade and a third from the emergency police went to the scene.

“Kill me!”

The suspect is then spotted by the police. He wears a balaclava and is armed with a rifle which he points at the police. “The suspect was about twenty meters from the officials and shouted, ‘Kill me!’”details the same source. His weapon strongly resembles a Kalashnikov and the police move aside, ordering this man to drop his weapon. One of the agents uses his electric pulse gun (PIE) to try to disarm and neutralize the madman, without success. A second police officer performs the same maneuver but his attempt also fails. It was finally a third agent who managed to bring down the suspect who was then overpowered and arrested. His weapon was a reproduction of a Kalashnikov, a replica that fires pellets. “With the darkness, the police could not distinguish that it was an imitation weapon and the intervention could have turned into a tragedy with an opening of fire. They showed composure”observes a police source.

The suspect automatically hospitalized

The suspect was taken to the police station. Living in Nancy, he had nearly 2.5 grams of alcohol per liter of blood. An investigation was opened and the young man’s custody was finally lifted. He was automatically hospitalized in psychiatry.

The police intervention was welcomed by the Un1té de la Meurthe-et-Moselle union, on Facebook, “for their intervention full of composure in the face of a desperate man wishing to end his life through ‘suicide by cop'”.
