On the evening of Tuesday, December 17, 2024, around 8:30 p.m., Le Havre municipal police officers had to face a difficult vehicle check. While they were carrying out a speed check on a Peugeot 207, rue Georges Piat, the vehicle refused to comply and fled.
According to the Rouen police, “the vehicle took a lot of risks in the city center“. Despite this refusal to comply, the police managed to stop the car a little further away, rue de Cronstadt. It turns out that this car had been stolen during the day, Tuesday December 17, 2024.
To escape, the four passengers abandoned the vehicle and fled. Only one does not make it and is caught by the police. He is a 16-year-old from Le Havre.
During his arrest, the municipal police found a “butterfly knife” in his possession. He was placed in police custody for “concealment of theft”, “complicity in refusal to comply” and “carrying a category D weapon”. The carrying and transport of this type of bladed weapon outside the home is prohibited, without legitimate reason, because it may constitute a danger to public safety.
Later in the evening, around midnight, a young underage man presented himself at the police station in the presence of an adult. This 13-year-old boy would be involved in this same vehicle theft and is suspected of having driven it, without a valid driving license given his age. An investigation is being carried out by the police to find the other passengers present in this stolen car at the time of the check.
