14 arrests during urban violence after the death of a man in police custody

Urban violence has been taking place for a week in Hauts-de-Seine after the death of a man in police custody in . “Sporadic” events but which nevertheless gave rise to 14 arrests.

Since December 11 and the death of a man in police custody in Bagneux, urban violence has broken out in Hauts-de-Seine. During the nights of Friday December 13 to Sunday December 15, trash fires and mortar fire were recorded in Châtillon, already affected by the phenomenon for several days, but also in Bagneux, , Fontenay-aux-Roses, , , Châtenay-Malabry or even Le Plessis-Robinson.

At the origin of this violence, “small mobile groups of 8 to 10 people”, explained the prefecture of the department to BFM Île-de-.

“Sporadic” acts of violence

In total, 14 people were arrested for armed gathering with a view to committing violence or damage, including 11 only on the night of December 11 to 12, details the Paris police headquarters.

“The incidents of urban violence remain sporadic and of low intensity at this stage, confined to towns close to the town of origin of the deceased,” she assures.

The episodes of urban violence in Fontenay-aux-Roses “did not give rise to arrests”, however, specified the public prosecutor’s office this Monday, December 16.

Reinforced security has been put in place in the department by the police headquarters and will be “maintained as long as necessary”. A device which “made it possible to control the situation”, adds the Hauts-de-Seine prefecture.

An open jackpot

At the same time, an IGPN investigation is still underway to investigate the causes of the man’s death. According to his lawyers, the latter suffered from “a serious mental pathology” and was “under reinforced guardianship”.

He had been placed in police custody as part of a preliminary investigation into drug offenses.

A fundraiser has been opened to help the family of the man who died in police custody. This Tuesday, December 17, 520 people contributed, raising more than 8,800 euros.
