On December 2, the board of directors elected Loïc Josseran president of the University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (UVSQ). Elected in the first round with 23 votes out of 36 for a four-year term, this professor, who was until now dean of the UFR Simone Veil-Santé, has also been president of the Alliance against tobacco since 2017. He succeeds as well as Alain Bui who has chaired the UVSQ since 2017. He will have the difficult task during his mandate of integrating the UVSQ into the University of Paris. Saclay in 2025.
“As president of UVSQ, I invite the entire university community to come together to build, in line with our values, the university of tomorrow. With its training and cutting-edge research, UVSQ benefits from national and international influence,” declared the president in a press release sent by the establishment. And added: “My project aims to collectively build policies and strategies for research, training and university life which will chart a clear and coherent trajectory for the years to come.”
Elected for a 4-year term
But who is Loïc Josseran? This professor, who studied medicine at the University of Bordeaux II then joined an internship at the University of Rennes I, specializes in public health. “He worked at the Health Surveillance Institute (INVS) as a medical epidemiologist from 2003 to 2010, then as a technical advisor in the office of the Secretary of State for Health, Nora Berra (UDI) and the Minister of Health. Health Xavier Bertrand (LR) from 2010 to 2012,” specifies the press release. Since 2012, he has been a university professor and hospital practitioner (PU-PH) at UVSQ.
From November 12 to 14, UVSQ students voted to elect their representatives to the central councils of the university: board of directors, training and university life commission, research commission. Elections which were distinguished by their high participation rate: 70% of voters among staff and nearly 26% among students.
Loïc Josseran will have Franck Monnier as vice-president. The latter is a lecturer in the history of law and institutions. “Teacher-researcher at the Faculty of Law and Political Science of UVSQ for 13 years, he first exercised teaching responsibilities in undergraduate studies, before becoming vice-dean, then dean of the faculty in 2022,” mentions the press release.
