A cooking workshop and distribution of vegetable baskets organized by the Aude department in Castelnaudary

A collective action was carried out in the Aude commune of Castelnaudary by the Aude department, in partnership with the Lauragais Departmental House of Solidarity and the Families Trade Union Confederation, on December 10. This action for eighteen Chaurian families monitored by the MDS took the form of a cooking workshop – three simple and delicious recipes were prepared by those present. The culinary experience was followed by a free distribution of baskets of vegetables, which come from the Chaurian farm “Jardin du rendez-vous vivant”.

The distribution of baskets is an initiative organized by the Aude department three times a year, aimed at twenty families followed by the ten Solidarity Houses in the region. “It’s an initiative that we worked on last year in a few sectors, and which we have generalized throughout the department,” explains Chloé Danillon, vice-president of the departmental council in charge of child protection and of local social action. These solidarity baskets contain vegetables, fruits, eggs or even legumes, depending on the local producer.

This initiative was, moreover, put in place in the face of growing financial insecurity, the increase in the number of people “who do not eat enough, who cannot eat three meals, and charities are unable to keep up”, underlines Chloé Danillon, before emphasizing that this measure makes it possible to give “a helping hand to local farmers in difficulty”. The department's objective is to renew the distribution of these food baskets each year, once a quarter. The next edition will take place before April 2025.
