He had been on the path to reintegration until his last arrest. A 36 year old man, who has already spent 16 years of his life behind bars, was arrested during a ordinary road check on Monday December 2, 2024 at the level ofavenue Geoffroy de Saint-Hilaire in Étampes (Essonne), which has revealed five violations.

He was carrying cannabis and a tear gas bomb

That day, early in the morning, a national police patrol spotted a Renault Twingo out of age traveling on public roads. The car enters the Pasteur district and parks in a double line.

The patrol decides to carry out a usage check. The motorist suddenly gets out of his vehicle and tries to escape, leaving his car, engine running, in the middle of the road.

In a few minutes, the police managed, with difficulty, to control her. The control is successful. The car is a ghost vehicle that belongs to a garage that doesn't exist.

She is not insured. THE driver does not have a driving license and in his pocket the officials found a 100g bar of cannabis and a tear gas canister in the glove compartment.

“I stole the shit from a dealer’s cache”

Prosecuted before the Évry-Courcouronnes judicial court for rebellion, unauthorized possession of narcotics, transport without legitimate reason of a category D weapondriving without a license and without insurance for a motor vehicle, Romain is not fooled.

In his cubicle, wrapped up in his black tracksuit, he defends his attitude step by step, interrupts the president and deploys attempts at explanations more or less eccentric.

“I stole the shit from a dealer's cache and I tried to get out of the police's grip so I could dropping off groceries for my dad who lives close by,” he tried to justify himself.

Reintegration into society after 19 convictions

At 36 years old, the defendant already has a serious criminal record. He was convicted twice by an assize court, notably for attempted murder on a person holding public authority.

His criminal record shows 19 convictions since 2005. Incarcerated for 16 years, he was released during 2021.

Since then, Romain has rebuilt his life, respecting all the terms of his legal obligations. He works on permanent contract in the markets for a roast caterer.

Convicted, he will serve his prison sentence on semi-liberty

During her requisitions, the prosecutor highlighted certain progress in the defendant while noting his chaotic attitude during his arrest like his ability to blame his faults on others.

Romain's lawyer asked the court do not judge him based on his criminal recordnor on his disrespectful behavior during the hearing.

The thirty-year-old was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment, four of which were suspended. He will serve his sentence in detention under the regime of semi-liberty, which will allow him to continue his professional activity.
