Dakar, Dec 7 (APS) – The Republic of Guinea, through his Minister of Commerce, Industry and SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises), Diaka Sidibé, expressed on Saturday his desire to strengthen economic exchanges with Senegal.
”Beyond the stands and exhibitions, our presence here symbolizes a broader vision: that of strengthening economic exchanges between Guinea and Senegal,” declared Ms. Sidibé, during the launching ceremony of the day dedicated to Guinea.
Guinea and Rwanda are the invited countries of the 32nd edition of the Dakar International Fair (FIDAK).
The Guinean minister insisted on the importance of regional cooperation to address the common challenges facing African nations.
”With this in mind, we see FIDAK as an opportunity to realize the ambitions of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ZLECAF)”, she added.
She also stressed that sharing experiences and establishing strategic partnerships can make the two countries models of economic and social success.
In the same spirit, Ibrahima Thiam, Secretary of State for Development of SMEs and SMIs, recalled the friendship and working visit to Guinea carried out on May 24 and 25 by the Senegalese President, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye.
This visit, he added, allowed the two heads of state to reaffirm their common desire to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
According to Mr. Thiam, the ambition of the two countries is to raise economic and commercial exchanges to the level of exemplary diplomatic and sociological relations which unite them.
However, he noted that current trade “remains timid, with a total volume of just over 100 billion CFA francs.”
He nevertheless highlighted the many untapped potentialities on both sides. ”It is necessary to analyze these potentialities and find ways to exploit them to transform them into opportunities for production, trade and socio-economic development,” recommended the Senegalese official.
