Dordogne. Recognition of the state of natural disaster for this municipality

On December 3, the Official Journal published two interministerial decrees recognizing the state of natural disaster for the municipality of Villamblard. These orders, dated November 18 and 19, 2024, mainly concern events linked to land movements and floods occurring in 2024.

Ground movement in Villamblard

By a decree dated November 18, 2024, the town of Villamblard, located in Dordogne, was recognized as being in a state of natural disaster due to a landslide that occurred on May 24, 2024. This recognition will allow the victims of the town to benefit from insurance coverage for damage caused by this geological phenomenon. “The citizens have a period of 30 days during which they can submit an estimate of their losses to their insurance company,” assures the prefecture.

Lack of recognition for Paussac-et-Saint-Vivien

The decree of November 18, 2024 also specified that the neighboring municipality of Paussac-et-Saint-Vivien, although affected by flooding, was not included in the municipalities recognized as being in a state of natural disaster.

Drought and ground movements: refusal of recognition for several municipalities

The decree of November 19, 2024, for its part, confirmed the refusal to recognize the state of natural disaster for nine municipalities affected by differential land movements following drought and soil rehydration. These municipalities, which are mainly located in the Dordogne department, are: Badefols-d'Ans, Bosset, Chalais, Jaure, Plazac, Saint-Félix-de-Reillac-et-Mortemart, Saint-Germain-et-Mons, Saint-Léon-sur-l’Isle and Saint-Séverin-d’Estissac.

This decision not to recognize the state of natural disaster for these municipalities causes disappointment, particularly among residents and local authorities, who were hoping for support for the damage caused by soil deformation.

Drought-related

In summary, these decrees state the partial recognition of the state of natural disaster in the department of Dordogne, specifically concerning Villamblard for a movement of land, but exclude several other municipalities from the same recognition for geological phenomena linked to the drought.
