We usually look for mushrooms in the woods or meadows. Katia Gindro, head of Agroscope’s Mycology group in Changins (VD), has long dreamed of discovering those who inhabit the confines of the stratosphere. Thanks to the ingenuity of Jérôme Kasparian, professor in the applied physics group, and at the Institute of Environmental Sciences of the University of Geneva, she achieved this this year, by attempting a unique experiment: sending weather balloons in the air from the MeteoSwiss station in Payerne (VD).
