Highway 11 is now reopened to traffic between Orillia and Huntsville, north of Toronto. This section of around a hundred kilometers had been blocked since Sunday afternoon due to the snowstorm which hit the region this weekend.

Ontario Provincial Police had already begun reopening sections of the highway on Monday. Around 10 p.m. Monday, the police service confirmed that the roadway was now reopened in both directions.

Some 140 centimeters of snow fell in places in the Muskoka district in recent days, depriving thousands of customers ofHydro One of electricity.

The Municipality of Gravenhurst also declared a state of emergency due to bad weather.

Some motorists were stuck for hours on Highway 11 Sunday. The Municipality of Gravenhurst came to their aid and accommodated them at the town hall.
