“There is a region located between the Scie and Béthune valleys characterized by a plateau covered by the Eawy forest. This region is neither part of the Pays de Caux nor the Pays de Bray. This free zone, I call it Eawy country. »
We could believe in the introduction to a story. But this is the way in which Franck Lemarchand, a resident of Cressy, Seine-Maritimetalks about his region.
This history enthusiast, particularly local heritage, wishes to launch a history and heritage association of the Eawy country.
The goal is to bring together people passionate about local history and heritage in the broad sense.
In total, 31 municipalities would be part of the sector defined by Franck Lemarchand. From Maucomble to Martigny, from Meulers to Beaumont-le-Hareng, and from Cressy to Osmoy-Saint-Valery.
“I had already wanted to launch an association a few years ago in the Talou region, but the sector was much too big,” says Franck Lemarchand.
Knowledge sharing
The local historian has already determined the scope of the association, and in particular, the main objective: share knowledge of local history and heritage.
We no longer take photos of our villages, we no longer see the evolution of our villages.
To remedy this lack of documentation, he wishes promote historical and heritage research, contribute to protecting and promoting the heritage and memory of residents, or even create a place of archives and research.
“This would allow us to have a database, a place to archive all the objects, photos and documents from the period until today, to which everyone would have access,” he explains.
Preserve local heritage
Beyond sharing knowledge, Franck Lemarchand also wishes act to protect heritage, whether tangible, intangible or natural.
In particular, he wishes establish partnerships with local associations defense of heritage, discovery of landscapes and natural environments, in conjunction with local communities.
We could contribute to the restoration of abandoned tombs, for example.
But all these projects have a cost.
And once again, the history enthusiast has no shortage of ideas: discovery hikes, explanatory booklets, exhibitions, immersive escape games…
He plans toorganize events during the year to create cash flowbut also, share their knowledge in a more current and attractive way.
For the moment, the local historian is seeking to surround himself with 7 to 8 people, “all local history enthusiasts, from the youngest to the oldest”in order to create the office of the association “taking the time to do things correctly”.
