A tenant of a building in La Ciotat (Bouches-du-Rhône) heard a crack on the evening of Monday, November 25, 2024 in his apartment located on the second floor. Quickly, a worrying subsidence of the floor between the third and second floor was noted, indicates France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur. This observation led to the evacuation of 18 residents without any being injured, indicated the Town Hall.
An imminent danger order was issued and it also concerns the two adjoining buildings which were also evacuated. In total, around forty rescuers intervened, including teams specializing in rescue and clearance. They worked in particular to ensure the security of tenants and premises. The municipal police and the deputy mayor for security were present during the evacuation.
A museum then a hotel while waiting for the rest
The owner of the building also made the trip. The residents were first sheltered at the Ciotaden museum and then taken to a hotel in the city, reports Provence . They are supported by the CCAS, the Municipal Social Action Center, so that rehousing solutions can be found. An emergency meeting was organized on the morning of Tuesday November 26, 2024 at the town hall.
“This raises the problem of dilapidated buildings in the old center, it’s a dramatic situation because families find themselves on the street” explains the mayor (DVD) Alexandre Doriol, quoted by the regional daily. He indicated that he wanted to put in place a rental permit which would make it possible to establish a diagnosis of a property before its occupation. La Ciotat has 28 danger orders, 14 of which affect buildings in imminent danger.
