It's a scam almost as traditional as turkey and chestnuts… As Christmas and the end of year holidays approach, scammers bring it out again to deceive gullible people. 2024 is no exception since the Paris police headquarters is already sounding the alarm at the end of November to warn Ile-de-France residents against “fake calendar sellers who are real crooks”.
Check the institution logo on the calendar
“Salespeople pretend to be firefighters, postmen or even garbage collectors to sell you calendars by going door to door,” recontextualize the State services, which call for “good, simple and effective reflexes to avoid scams.” “.
In this case, the people contacted must ask their interlocutor for their professional card. They must obviously not allow a stranger into their home and must, on the contrary, report any suspicious person or person with insistent behavior by dialing 17 or 112.
The prefecture services also ask to check the presence on the calendar of the official logo of the institution supposed to be represented.
Elderly or isolated people around you should be made aware of this risk as a priority.
Every year, the Paris town hall reminds us that municipal agents (garbage collectors, sewer workers, etc.) cannot carry out these collections and therefore asks Parisians to be wary of scams and fake garbage collectors: “municipal agents have in fact the strict prohibition, by prefectural notice, of requesting any gratification whatsoever. This ban also applies to employees of private companies collecting waste on behalf of the City of Paris.
The City therefore invites Parisians to “dismiss agents, or people usurping this title, who come to their homes to ask for gifts”.
