Some will say that it is logical not to open a store on Sunday for Black Fridaywhich, remember, means “black Friday” in English. But for a large brand, it was just as logical to request an exemption from the authorities in order to receive customers despite the usual Sunday rest. A request rejected in the Tarn.

Darty Grand Ouest actually wanted to have some of its employees work on Sunday December 1, 2024 in its store in at 12, rue Albert-Calmettes in the Auchan hypermarket area. And the prefecture, in a decree, refuses this request.

No harm to customers

First, the prefecture notes that Black Friday is Friday November 29, 2024. And not the following Sunday. Then, the authorities estimate that customers will be able to make “their purchases without difficulty on other days of the week and by other means (online purchases, etc.)”. And that, as a result, the “harm caused to its customers” by this non-opening is not justified.

Above all, the prefecture assures that it has not received no element enabling the estimated amount of turnover to be assessed that Sunday. Or to know if the same figure could be reached on the other six days of the week.

Like last year

It is therefore “not established that granting simultaneous rest to all the staff of the establishment” in question “would compromise its normal functioning”.

Last year, Darty had made the same request. And the prefecture the same refusal. With the same justification.

Note that in Tarn, a request from the store Armand Thiery of Lescure-d'Albigeois was the subject of the same refusal by the prefecture.
