A 64-year-old general practitioner filed a complaint after being violently attacked at his office in Drancy (Seine-Saint-Denis) on Monday November 25, 2024. According to The Parisian a patient violently headbutted him. He now suffers from a triple broken nose and has difficulty breathing. “I no longer have a sense of smell”he testifies at the microphone of CNEWS .
According to the practitioner, who has been working as a general practitioner for 25 years, the accused is a young man whom he has been following since he was little. A few days earlier, he reportedly had a dispute with his mother over a refund. “He called me a thief and a crook”says the caregiver, while confiding that he has not “never been confronted with such violence”.
Sharply increasing violence
Very shocked by what happened to him, the sixty-year-old decided to close his office “until further notice”. But this closure could be permanent since he is now talking about early retirement. “It’s a shame because I have lovely patients. It’s for them that I feel sorry for”he says in the columns of the Ile-de-France daily.
In 2023, violence and assaults reported by doctors increased by 27%. They have therefore jumped by 50% in two years since the increase was already 23% in 2022. General practitioners are by far the most affected (71%) according to the National Order of Physicians, which calls on practitioners to systematically file complaints.
