More fear than harm in short when seeing the damage at Frida-Kahlo College in Pontchâteau (Loire-Atlantique), after the passage of the Caetano storm which blew all day Thursday November 21, 2024.

No blown roof

The Loire-Atlantique prefecture announcedin its 3:30 p.m. situation update, the roof taking off of the public establishment, built six years ago. In reality, it was not quite that and fortunately.

This is the metal cladding that surrounds the top of the eastern extension of the college. Part of it flew towards the neighboring business and another fell in the college courtyard, without causing any injuries.

Management had been alerted at 2 p.m. of this initial damage and students were deprived of afternoon recess.

Confined students

With the PPMS, Special Safety Plan, on the instructions to follow in the event of danger, organized that day, in all the department's colleges in the morning, morning recess had already been eliminated.

The Prefecture, through our hierarchy, asked us to place the students in confinement. They could not go out before 5 p.m. except those whose parents came to pick them up. And there were more of them than usual. At 5 p.m., as the buses arrived, those who were supposed to take it took it.

By 5:45 p.m., both teachers and students had left the premises and the parent-teacher meeting, scheduled for the same evening, was canceled. And the sub-prefect came on site, with Danièle Cornet, mayor of Pontchâteau.

Access condemned

All around the eastern extension, barriers block access pending work. No leak problems were noted in the building.

Classes resumed normally Friday morning, with internet network problems but no electricity.
