This town in Val-d'Oise opens a garden of animal remembrance

Our dear departed four-legged companions now have the right, like human beings, to a place of remembrance where their ashes are scattered.

An “animal-friendly” city (a label granted by the Île-de-France Region), Taverny, in Val-d’Oise, has just created an “Animal Remembrance Garden” in the Plaine cemetery, in the area of activities in Châtaigniers.

A memorial garden already exists in this cemetery for individuals, near the columbarium, where the ashes of the deceased can be scattered and their names written on a plaque. It is now the same for animals.

Place of meditation

Open for a few days, the animal memorial garden, fenced, peaceful and wooded, allows you to scatter the ashes of your pet at the foot of the two recently planted trees.

This is therefore aimed at those who have chosen to have their little companion cremated, via a veterinarian.

€15,000 was invested by the municipality to develop this 125 square meter space located on the right when entering the cemetery.

“The residents wanted a space of contemplation, a place that testifies to the love they have for their animal,” explains Ana Pasini, municipal councilor responsible for Animal Protection, in the city’s municipal magazine.

People who wish to use this space must contact the Green Spaces, Environment and Animal Protection department (on 01 30 40 50 42) and arrange an appointment. The scattering of the ashes will take place in the presence of a City agent, during cemetery opening hours (every day from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. from 1^is October to March 31).

A commemorative plaque will then be sealed on the wall, engraved with the animal's name. The cost is €20 for residents of Taverny and €30 for non-residents. The “concession” lasts three years and is renewable.
